Termination dust on the mountains
I woke up this morning to find “termination dust” covering the tops of some of the mountains here. “Termination dust” is an Alaskan term referring to the first dusting of snow on the mountains. This generally signals the end of Summer and the approach of Winter.
I realize that there should be a “Fall” season in-between there, but here in Alaska the Fall season is so short, that it’s usually gone in the blink of an eye. Just within the past couple of weeks, the leaves on the trees have already turned gold, orange, and red, and a lot of them have begun to drop off and fall to the ground. The temperatures have dipped too, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a dusting of snow appear on the ground here in town soon. (bite my tongue)
Even though it feels like Winter is rapidly approaching here, Autumn officially begins on Friday, and I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Fall season!!

At Home in Alaska 
Here in New England we would be lost without autumn. It’s time to purchase the Butternut Squash and the pumpkins. We like to adjust to the cold slowly… before the first snowfall.

Very beautiful photo. To me to see snow topped mountains is exotic. In Finland first snow will come in October and generally it melts away.
We got some more snow on the mountains today. It won’t be too long before we have snow on the ground. It is pretty and I don’t really mind the snow. It’s the freezing cold temperatures that I’m not a big fan of. 🙂
